This course provides you with the ability to give someone potentially lifesaving treatment through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and with the skills to operate an automated external defibrillator (AED). It also covers anaphylaxis which is a severe reaction to an allergen and is potentially life threatening. Common causes include insect stings, food and certain medicines and it should always be treated as a medical emergency. This course is suitable for workplace first aiders, teachers, if you or your staff administer drugs or medications (for example influenza vaccinations) or if you employ staff with diagnosed allergenic problems.
A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time but it is possible to survive and recover if you get the right treatment quickly. Having a defibrillator in your workplace, and knowing how to use it, can dramatically increase the chances of survival if someone’s heart stops beating - but it must be used promptly. For every minute delayed in delivering the shock, survival reduces by up to 10%.
If you are an organisation, employer or individual who has an AED on your premises and would like to improve lifesaving first aid skills in your community, this course will help you to develop the appropriate skills to make a difference.
You can also purchase AEDs from North East Ambulance Service. Please contact us for further information.
Candidates are continuously assessed by North East Ambulance Service trainers throughout the course.
On successful completion of this course candidates will receive a North East Ambulance Service approved CPR, AED and Anaphylaxis certificate which is valid for one year.
The course is three hours in duration and can be delivered on your premises at timings to suit you.
Training is carried out at your place of work.
