First Aid at Work

  Course Will Enable Learners To:

The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work is designed for learners intending to act as a First Aider in the workplace. This qualification will provide all the required first aid skills necessary to manage a patient that is not breathing normally, is unconscious, bleeding or is ill or injured prior to the arrival of the emergency services. The qualification is designed to provide the First Aider with the skills necessary to give effective basic life support, diagnose and treat minor and manage major injuries or illness keeping the patient alive until the emergency services arrive.

• Assess situations, circumstances and events in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure), choking, wounded, bleeding or suffering from shock.
• Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
• Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma and diabetes.
• Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds and small splinters.
• Recognise the signs and symptoms of anaphylactic shock and administer first aid including the use of an auto injector.
• Deliver and assess the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). 
• Record and report first aid incidents.

  Assessment:

Assessment consists of;

• 5 x practical assessments
• 2 x theory assessments (multiple choice question papers)
• Continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course.

  Certification / Qualification:

On successful completion of this course delegates will receive a Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work. This is an Ofqual regulated qualification which is valid for three years.

  Daily Programme:

The course takes three days to complete and runs 09:00 - 16:00 each day.
